[Technical Column] Features of Cermet Tools

What is the difference between cermet and carbide? An explanation of the advantages and disadvantages of cermet tools.

Cermet, one of the cutting tool materials, has very high hardness at elevated temperatures, excellent oxidation resistance, and low affinity with metals, along with many advantages. However, on the other hand, it also has high resistance to chipping and plastic deformation, making it difficult to handle. In this column, we introduce the characteristics of cermet tools, the differences between cermet and carbide tools, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of cermet tools. *For more detailed information, please refer to the related links. *For more details, please check the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.

[Technical Proposal Example] Proposal for Extending the Lifespan of Special Inserts (Cermet Tools)

A case where durability was significantly improved by adding angle changes and R0.2 to the cermet tool.

We would like to introduce a case where our technical proposal significantly improved tool life. The customer in question was using cermet but was troubled by the fact that the cutting edge would chip after machining only 2 to 3 workpieces. In response, we made adjustments to the cermet tool by changing the angle and adding an R0.2 radius. As a result of implementing this proposal, durability improved, allowing the tool that previously chipped after a few pieces to continuously process workpieces. [Challenges] - The cermet tool chips after machining only 2 to 3 workpieces. - A large stock of tools must be maintained at all times. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
